Childproofing Time!

When the little ones start learning how to get around the home, it is an exciting time.  Exciting for the little ones to be able to explore and discover new things and exciting for the parents as well to watch their young ones embark in their new adventures.  However, this exciting time is also the time when they start running into troubles and so it is important to keep the home as safe as possible.

Because I am a stay at home mom, at the top of the list is keeping an eye on my child as much as possible.  We check for anything in the house that may be a potential cause for any trouble or danger regularly.  This includes securing anything that may potentially fall, keeping anything that are not baby-friendly out of our child's reach and/or sight, making sure she is not left alone with things that are, or have, small parts that could cause choking, etc.  Then there are also childproofing products that we bought.

The first we bought was a travel cot that we used as a playpen.  It was useful for when she was still learning how to crawl and stand because of the soft sides.  But once she started to learn how to walk and try to climb, we got another playpen (Lindam playpen) made of metal and where she can play on a secured area on the floor.  Because the playpen's design is flexible, we are able to change it's shape to suit our needs and can even be used to gate off certain areas of the house when not used as a playpen.

We also got outlet covers and plugged them in any outlets that are open.  Little adventurers love investigating buttons, switches and holes so this is very useful.  Recently, we got corner bumpers (from Ikea) for those sharp table and cabinet corners.  Our child is already running around so bumping onto things is very much possible.  The corner bumpers will help soften the blow if ever it happens.  Lastly, we got the multi latch/lock (also from Ikea) for cupboard doors that she is able to reach and open.  With the locks in place, she is not able to open the cupboards but easy enough for adults to access.

What other childproofing measures do you have in your own home?

Mini Haul: IKEA

My husband and I have been in need of a new bed and mattress for quite some time.  The bed we had was just not good anymore and we have been getting back problems from it.  So last week, we finally got a chance to go to Ikea and got a new bed.  Yey!  BUT, this post is not really about the bed.  I'm actually going to talk about the other bits and pieces that I got while we were there.  :)  So let's start!

Dimpa storage bag - I got this obviously for storage.  It's a big sturdy storage bag and will come in handy for anything bulky that I want to store.  Having a toddler also means we accumulate so many toys and clothes.  As things become old and no longer needed, I intend to use this to store them until it is time to sell them on or giveaway.  While at the store, this bag came in handy as well to put any of the other stuff that I purchased.

Bollkar soft toy - This is just a basket ball soft toy that we got for our little one.  Since she loves playing with balls, this will be a nice add

Lilleplutt soft toy - This is another soft toy. It is a cat toy that is cute and made well. The details such as eyes and nose are all embroidered so it is quite safe for small children. There are no small parts that might get detached and pose as a choking hazard.

Stugvik towel rack - I don't like drilling holes on the walls as much as possible so I picked up this one to replace an old floor-standing towel rail. It uses suction cups to mount the rail on the wall so it will only take a minute to install plus the fact that you can always adjust it any time you want.

Stopp anti-slip underlayer - This is just something I got to help keep some of my rugs from slipping. Not only will it help keep the rugs where I want them on the floor, it will also help keep a safer floor for the little one as it lessens the chance of slipping from slippery rugs.

Ikea 365+ Vardefull peeler - Just picked up this peeler coz I needed a new one. I like the rubber handle which I think will make it comfortable to use.

Stugvik basket w/ suction cups - This a wall mounted basket or caddy for the bathroom and works similar to the towel rail. Again, there is no need to drill holes to install and the basket has a lot of room to hold all of my shower items.

Kusiner wall pockets - I found this item in the children's section. It is like the name says, a wall pocket storage. It has six pockets and you simply hang it on the wall using a couple of nails or hooks (I intend to use adhesive hooks) where you need it. It will be useful to unclutter your top-drawers or tables of any small bits and pieces that are usually lying around and being used frequently like keys or make-up brushes, etc.

Patrull multi latch - Because my little one is already very good at walking and explores every part of the house, I got this to child-proof the low-level cupboard doors. Again, it only takes a couple of minutes to install and no drilling required.

Patrull corner bumper - Another child-proofing item, this time for sharp table corners. This will help lessen any injuries for the little ones especially from sharp corners they might run into.

Tresemme Platinum Strength Conditioner Review

Today, I'm reviewing the new Tresemme Platinum Strength Conditioner.  I have been using this conditioner for over a month now and I must say, I just love it!  It's been a while since I've had a conditioner that I'd want to stick to and this is it.

Since I moved, I have not been able to give my hair the products and treatments that I used to get and as a result my hair has suffered from frizz, dryness, tangles, brittleness, heat damage and even stickiness.  So when I saw the advert for the Tresemme Platinum Strength range, it looked like it was what I needed and I was not disappointed.

The description on the bottle of the conditioner is as follows:
* fortifies and protects for beautifully moisturized hair
* visibly repairs up to 2 years of damage in just 5 uses with the Tresemme Platinum Strength system for stronger, more manageable and beautifully healthy hair.
* Renewing Complex reinforces hair's naturally protective layer, restoring your hair and protecting against future damage.

The first time I used the product, I washed my hair with my normal shampoo, then after rinsing, applied the conditioner (concentrating from the middle to the ends of my hair).  I left the conditioner on for at least 1 minute then rinsed thoroughly.  Just from  that first use, I instantly felt a difference with the texture of my hair.  My hair felt smoother, softer, lighter, more tamed, and did not tangle so easily.  I felt like running my fingers through my hair again and again as my hair have not felt that nice in a long time.

Until now that I am already halfway through the bottle, I still get the same positive results from each wash without leaving my hair greasy from build-up.  At £4.99 for a 500ml bottle, the price is not bad either and one bottle lasts me for quite some time considering I have quite thick hair.

Nothing but raves for me with this conditioner. :)
